My Sources and Feeds

BBC News – Middle East: This news feed is added to the list for obvious reasons. I like it that this one is also a bit  broader. Because it focuses on the entire geographic region rather than just Iraq, it allows me to place the War into context with what the attitudes and daily lives are like over there.

BBC News – South Asia: Although most of America’s focus on warfare is presently in the Middle East, I feel that it is also important to keep up to date with our ongoing involvement in Afghanistan and other South Asian countries. This will also offer insight into the conflict along the Pakistani border.

MSNBC – Conflict in Iraq: This one is more specific than the BBC Middle East. It focuses in on just our goings on in Iraq, making it more in depth as well.

The Guardian – World News – Iraq: I’m hoping that this news source, coming from the United Kingdom, will represent a slightly different and perhaps even more removed opinion of the war in Iraq.

Al Jazeera: This is in hopes of gaining a radically different perspective. After all, there are two sides to every story (or war) and we really have no hope of understanding any of it unless we try to see it from both sides.

Fallen Falcon – Blog of the mother of a fallen soldier: This offers is painstakingly more human side to the war. This mother writes about how both her and her family cope with the death of her son in combat more than two years ago. I strongly suggest others to read this blog as well. She is very poetic in expressing her grief. The URL is http://www.milblogging.com/listingDetail.php?id=3288 if you are interested.

Fareed Zakaria GPS Podcast: Honestly, this one is a bit more for my own enjoyment. I read his book The Post-American Worldfor my International Relations class and fell in love with some of his ideas. This podcast is useful for this project because Zakaria addresses the US war on terror and how it affects us from both an economic and a security standpoint.

This ain’t Hell, but you can see it from here - Military Blog: This is the blog of John Lilyea, a platoon leader and infantryman with the COB6 Armored division. His comments are darkly witty and his site also has a great mix of videos, photo memoirs, political cartoons, and links to MANY other milblogs. I found this the most useful.

Military Spouse Talk Radio Podcast: This is an Internet talk radio show. It is directed towards army wives where other army wives can share their stories and support. Again, it makes this war more personal and attaches the headlines to real faces. militaryspousetalkradio.com
